12 Random Facts About Me

GETTING PERSONAL: A Peek Into My Quirky World

Boredom can be a funny thing. When I find myself with too much time on my hands at home, I often turn to writing as a creative outlet. Whether it’s jotting down random thoughts, expressing my opinions, or, on days when my brain and heart decide to work together, crafting a poem. There’s something so satisfying about the way a pen glides across paper, forming words that capture a moment, a feeling, or a fleeting thought. Today, I decided to do something a bit different and write down some quick facts about myself. Just a few quirky tidbits, really. I ended up with twelve, a mix of funny and personal insights.

I hope these little facts bring a smile to your face and give you a better idea of who I am! So, without further ado, here are some fun, and perhaps surprising, things about me:

FUNNY STARTERS

  1. Nicknames Galore: I’ve had a ton of nicknames over the years, mostly because I enjoyed the mystery of not revealing my real name. Some people knew me as “Mocha,” others as “George,” “Karen,” or “Elaine.” The list goes on, and I’ve honestly lost track of all the aliases. Now that everyone knows my actual name, I guess the secret is out. Still, many people continue to call me by my old nicknames out of habit—old habits die hard, right? It’s funny to think that, to this day, some people still prefer the names I made up on a whim!
  2. A Unique Heritage: My family background is quite a blend! On my mother’s side, I have Spanish roots, while my father brings in a mix of Japanese, Filipino, and a hint of Chinese. To add to this cultural cocktail, my surname, “Desabille,” has French origins. Quite the international mix, isn’t it? And no, you really don’t want to look up what my surname means in French—it’s a bit embarrassing! Haha.
  3. Introvert at Heart: Despite my playful nature with names and nicknames, I’m very much an introvert. I find comfort in solitude and enjoy my own company, which often leads me to hobbies like writing and reading.
  4. Egg Lover Extraordinaire: I have an obsession with eggs! From egg pie and omelets to leche flan, if it’s made with eggs, I’m all in. There’s just something about their versatility and flavor that I can’t get enough of. Yum!
  5. My Wasabi Mishap: I’ll never forget the first time I tried sushi at Yoshinoya. I made the rookie mistake of thinking that wasabi was some kind of green ice cream. One big spoonful later, my sinuses were on fire, and I learned a valuable lesson about Japanese condiments!

I’M INDEPENDENT

  1. Early Financial Dreams: I got into forex trading at just 15 years old, convinced it was my ticket to becoming a millionaire. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t, but it was a fun adventure into the world of finance.
  2. Avid Reader and Aspiring Writer: By the age of 15, I had written countless stories and read well over 100 books. I lost count somewhere along the way, but my love for stories—both reading and writing them—has always been a big part of who I am.
  3. First Love (Kind Of): My first “boyfriend” was in second grade, but let’s be real—it was just puppy love. I don’t count him as one of my exes, but it’s a cute memory from my childhood.
  4. Surprising Confessions: My crushes have always been taken aback when I finally tell them about my feelings. I usually wait until I’ve moved on to confess, just to keep things interesting!
  5. DIY Beauty Routine: I swear by natural remedies for my beauty routine. I use vinegar as a conditioner for my hair—it makes it super shiny—and coconut oil as a lotion for my skin. It’s a bit unconventional, but it works wonders for me.
  6. Chameleon Traveler: One of my favorite things to do when traveling is to blend in with the locals. I love mimicking accents, picking up on local slang, and even adopting local body language. It’s my way of immersing myself in a new culture and, honestly, it’s a lot of fun.
  7. The Papaya Lotion Incident: I learned the hard way that I’m allergic to papaya lotion. Let’s just say my skin did not appreciate it, and I’ve steered clear of papaya-scented products ever since!

And there you have it—a quirky mix of facts about me that I hope made you smile. Life is full of funny little moments and unique experiences, and I’m glad I could share a few of mine with you!

I wish we were officemates so we can go out and talk over a quick walk outside when boredom strikes. I often find myself doodling and writing when bored at work, too! My office notebook are filled with pages on blog post/poem drafts in between important work notes!

That’s nice of you to wish me as your officemate! You should see my compile of essays and drafts here, now thinking if I should post it or not..hahah!

I do my best to post what I draft in the office. They, more often than not, need polishing before posting but they are good springboards nonetheless. Go on and start posting them. They usually preserve our purest thoughts! 🙂
